Michelangelo's Pietà

Michelangelo’s Pietà

Florence, a morning as anyone else. I get into the New Museum of the Opera del Duomo, Florence: a skipped heartbeat, the pulse goes quickly.

I walk through the rooms, one after the other, with great concentration, even if there are many people inside, as I’m going through a church, or better, through my preferit Church.

First of all I meet the Gate of Paradise by Ghiberti, then the Mary Magdalen by Donatello, and then the Pietà by Michelangelo. Each of them reminds me they worth the 15 euros ticket I’ve spent.

The stairs follow one another, three floors of sacred art coming from the complex of the Duomo and then… boom! As the cherry on top I go up to the terrace of the third floor and I see Brunelleschi’s dome, which looks at me in its majesty. I love it: a masterpiece of architecture and elegance.

I go downstairs… “The show of beauty serving the sacred art”, someone said talking about the Museum. There’s no other better definition. I’ve come here hoping to be amazed; I couldn’t expect so much.
